Joe is an Experienced and Respected Leader Who Will Work for YOU!

Help Joe Build A Better Kona

A Voice of Reason for Hawaii County Council

Positive Community Leadership

Joe served on the Council for District 7 from 1996 to 1998 and again from 2002 to 2004. In both terms, he got things done by working cooperatively with the Administration, Staff and fellow Council Members. Kona and District 8 will benefit from his leadership now! As a hard working member of our community who participated in many organizations and events, Joe has earned the reputation as one who cares about Kona and the people of the Big Island.

This is a time when experience will be most important as we will have a new Mayor and  new Councilmen. The way we begin working together as reorganization occurs will determine whether we shall attain the positive results we need. This is especially important in infrastructure and sound fiscal planning.

Joe wants to be your conduit as the elected Councilmember to District 8, to work with the other eight on the Council and the new Mayor to prioritize the needs of each district, along with the entire island, and make plans realities with a commitment to funding and implementation.

The following are Joe's positions for the 2008-10 term:

  • Building of needed roads in Kona particularly bypasses and mauka-makai connectors
  • Challenging energy providers to move ahead with alternate forms of energy production, and creating plans for car pooling, more public transportation, and conservation
  • Island wide trash & recyclables pick up & waste to energy solution we have waited too long for this
  • New development concurrency—no exceptions
  • Preservation of agricultural, shoreline, and other valuable lands
  • A plan for sports and recreational use of the Old Airport, setting timelines, and seeking cooperative public/private financing to get it done
  • Promotion of businesses vital to our economy and the needs of our citizens and visitors, especially coffee and other farmers
  • Fiscal responsibility – preparing the County for the worsening economy and the implications to our budget—NOW
